Build Your Own Pineapple Kit
Want to grow a pineapple from a grocery store fruit? You only need a few basics to get started.
1. GrowPharm Succulent & Cactus Ultimate Gritty Mix
Pineapples like a loose, fast-draining root zone and do not appreciate staying wet for long periods.
Our GrowPharm Succulent & Cactus Ultimate Gritty Mix provides excellent drainage and aeration for rooting and growing pineapple plants.
2. Mega Mass 20-20-20 Fertilizer
Once your pineapple is rooted and actively growing, it will need regular nutrition.
Mega Mass 20-20-20 Fertilizer is a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer suitable for fruiting crops and general plant growth.
Start feeding lightly once you see healthy new growth.
3. Choose a Pot
Start with a relatively small pot with good drainage. There is no need to put a newly rooted pineapple crown into a huge container.
Browse our pots and growing containers and choose one that comfortably fits your pineapple crown.
That's Your Pineapple Kit
You need:
-
GrowPharm Gritty Mix
-
Mega Mass 20-20-20
-
A pot with drainage
-
One grocery-store pineapple
Remove the pineapple crown, strip off a few of the lowest leaves, allow the base to dry briefly, and plant the exposed stem into the Gritty Mix.
Keep it warm and bright, water when the mix begins to dry, and start feeding lightly after new growth appears.
Growing Pineapples in Calgary
Pineapples are tropical plants, so grow them indoors for most of the year.
They can enjoy Calgary's warm summer sunshine outdoors after being gradually acclimated, but bring them back inside before temperatures become cold.
Give your pineapple your brightest indoor location through winter. A grow light can be added later if it needs more light.
