Base Nutrients

Different nutrient lines use different bottles, but they all work in roughly the same way. Mega Mass and GreenPlanet are good examples.

What Are Base Nutrients?

Base nutrients are the plant’s main food. They provide everything the plant needs for basic growth.

Mega Mass uses three base nutrients:

• Grow
• Blend
• Bloom

These three bottles work together as one complete feeding system.

GreenPlanet has several different base nutrient systems:

• Medi One: One bottle
• Dual Fuel: Two bottles
• GP3 - Grow-Micro-Bloom: Three bottles
• Hydro Fuel: Separate two-part formulas for growth and flowering

Do not combine:

• Mega Mass with GreenPlanet GP3
• Mega Mass with Dual Fuel
• GP3 with Medi One
• Dual Fuel with Hydro Fuel
• Any other complete base nutrient with another complete base nutrient

Choose one base nutrient system and follow its feed chart. Mixing base nutrients from different lines can cause burning, nutrient lockout, deficiencies, etc. 

What Are Supplements?

Supplements are optional extras. They are added to a base nutrient for a particular reason.

Examples include:

• Cal-Mag
• Kelp
• Root stimulants
• Humic and fulvic acid
• Silica
• Bloom boosters

Supplements cannot replace base nutrients. A plant cannot live on Cal-Mag, kelp or bloom booster alone.

Mega Mass Supplements

Examples include:

• Kelp Mii: Kelp supplement
• Missing Link Gold: Fulvic acid
• Missing Link Black: Humic acid

GreenPlanet Supplements

Examples include:

• Vitathrive: For cuttings, transplants and vegetative growth
• Root Builder: For root development
• Pro Cal: Calcium and magnesium
• Massive Bloom: Flowering supplement
• Rezin: Late-flowering supplement

Supplements from different brands can usually be used with your chosen base nutrient. For example, Mega Mass base nutrients can be used with GreenPlanet Root Builder, Pro-Cal, etc. Green Planet base nutrients can be used with Mega Mass Kelp Mii, Missing link, etc. 

Correct Mixing Order

Products must be added to water one at a time.

A simple mixing order is:

1. Water
2. Silica
3. Cal-Mag, if needed
4. Base nutrient components
5. Root, kelp, humic or fulvic supplements
6. Bloom supplements
7. Microbial products
8. Check nutrient strength
9. Adjust pH last

Mix the water thoroughly after adding each product.

For Mega Mass:

1. Add Blend to the water and mix.
2. Add Grow and mix.
3. Add Bloom and mix.

For GreenPlanet GP3:

1. Add Micro to the water and mix.
2. Add Grow and mix.
3. Add Bloom and mix.

Never Mix Concentrates Together

Never pour nutrient concentrates together before adding them to water.

Do not mix Grow, Blend and Bloom together in a measuring cup. Do not mix Part 1 and Part 2 together. Do not mix concentrated Cal-Mag directly with concentrated Bloom.

Concentrates can react and create:

• Cloudiness
• Flakes
• Crystals
• Sludge
• Clogged irrigation lines
• Nutrients the plant can no longer absorb

Add one product to the water, mix it completely, and then add the next product.
