Be the coolest scientist on your block with these petri dishes!

A Petri dish is a shallow transparent lidded dish that biologists use to hold growth medium in which cells can be cultured, originally, cells of bacteria, fungi and small mosses. The container is named after its inventor, German bacteriologist Julius Richard Petri, who sources say was a really FUN-GUY. It is the most common type of culture plate.

Important Notes:

  • These petri dishes are made of plastic and cannot be autoclaved.
  • They do not come with agar or any other growth medium.
  • Non-sterile petri dishes are generally not ideal for cultivating mushrooms or other fungi intended for food.

Ideal for:

  • Education: Teaching biology basics, observing mold, or soil microbes.
  • Crafts: Mini terrariums, art projects, or organizing small items.
  • Seed Germination: Testing sprouting conditions.
  • Science Fairs: Non-sterile experiments like food spoilage tests.
  • Hobbies: Growing crystals, basic reactions, or fungi.
