Ficus Plants – Rubber Trees, Variegated Ficus & Rare Ficus Elastica
Ficus elastica (commonly called the Rubber Tree) is one of the easiest large indoor plants to grow. They tolerate normal indoor humidity, handle moderate light conditions, and grow into impressive statement plants over time.
Every plant is slightly different. A ficus is as a ficus does. Some will have heavy variegation, some will have darker leaves, and some will throw surprise colours as they grow. That unpredictability is part of the charm.
Ficus care is simple:
- Bright light is best. A good grow light keeps plants compact and encourages strong leaf colour.
- Let the soil dry slightly between watering. Rubber plants prefer well-draining soil and dislike sitting in soggy conditions.
- Don’t panic if they drop a leaf occasionally. Ficus are a little dramatic, but usually perfectly healthy.
- Fertilize monthly with a balanced fertilizer such as 4-4-4.
- Optional: silica supplements such as Rhino Skin can help strengthen plant tissue and support sturdy growth.
