Fine Fir Bark – Higher Moisture, Same Airflow

GrowPharm Fine Fir Bark is designed for orchids that need more consistent moisture while still maintaining airflow.

Smaller bark particles increase surface contact with roots, helping retain moisture slightly longer than medium bark—without turning into dense soil.

Best For These Orchid Types:

  • Phalaenopsis (Moth Orchids)
  • Paphiopedilum (Lady Slippers)
  • Miltoniopsis & Miltonia
  • Masdevallia & Dracula
  • Keikis & young orchids
  • Thin-rooted orchids

Not ideal for: large, thick-rooted orchids (use medium or coarse bark instead).

Why This Works:

  • Increased Moisture Retention – Holds water longer than medium bark
  • Maintains Airflow – Still prevents suffocation and root rot
  • Better Root Contact – Ideal for small or developing root systems

What’s Inside:

  • Fine Fir Bark (BC-Sourced) – Reclaimed from the forestry industry

How to Use:

  1. Soak Before Use – 2–24 hours
  2. Drain Thoroughly – Moist, not saturated
  3. Pot Gently – Avoid compacting around delicate roots

Product Highlights:

  • Heat-treated to remove pests and pathogens
  • Dry packaged for long shelf life
  • Excellent base for custom blends

This is your “safer” bark.
If your orchids dry out too fast in chunky mixes, this fixes it.

Custom Mix Potential:

  • Add sphagnum moss → further increase moisture retention
  • Add perlite → improve drainage
  • Add charcoal → cleaner root zone

Also Useful For:

  • Aroids (Monstera, Philodendron, Anthurium)
  • Terrariums & vivariums
  • Improving water retention in chunky soil blends

Why Orchids Need Bark:

Orchids naturally grow attached to trees—not in soil. Their roots expect airflow, quick drainage, and short moisture cycles.

Fine fir bark recreates this environment while slightly extending moisture availability—making it ideal for sensitive root systems.

Bark Origin:

This bark is a by-product of the British Columbia logging industry and is not harvested as a primary material.

It is heat-treated and packaged in Alberta to ensure a clean, stable product.

Simple, consistent, and built for real growers.
