What These Terms Mean
Total Airflow: The total air your pump must deliver. This is based on total water volume, not number of stones.
Per Reservoir / Per Stone: These are simple airflow splits assuming even distribution. They are calculations only, not standalone recommendations.
Reservoir Splits: Number of identical reservoirs fed by the same pump.
Water Depth Above Stone: The depth of water above the diffuser or air stone. Deeper water requires more pressure.
Diffuser Backpressure: Fine-pore stones and more restrictive diffusers require more pressure to push air through.
Airline Loss: Tubing, bends, manifolds, and fittings reduce airflow and add resistance.
Clogging Reserve: Extra margin for stones or diffusers that get dirtier over time.
Important: Always choose a pump that meets airflow at pressure, not just its maximum no-load box rating.
