GROW!T Coco Coir is a lightweight, compressed coconut coir growing media option for indoor plants, outdoor gardens, containers, hydroponic systems, tropical plants, flowers, vegetables, herbs, mulching, and decorative top dressing. These easy-to-carry coco blocks expand when water is added, making them convenient to store before use and practical for growers who want a cleaner, water-retentive alternative to bulky bags of growing media or mulch.

The GROW!T Coco Coir Mix is best suited for use as a planting and growing medium. Once hydrated, each block expands to more than 2.5 cubic feet of soil-like coco media that can be used in pots, planters, raised beds, and hydroponic growing systems. It helps retain moisture while still supporting aeration around plant roots.

The GROW!T Coco Coir Chips are chunkier and work especially well for tropical plants, orchids, indoor plant top dressing, moisture retention, mulching, and decorative ground cover. Once hydrated, each block expands to more than 2 cubic feet of mulch-style coco material. Coco chips are useful where you want more structure, airflow, and a cleaner-looking surface layer.

Both GROW!T coco coir products are suitable for indoor and outdoor growing and are useful for gardeners, houseplant growers, hydroponic growers, orchid growers, and anyone who wants a compact block that stores easily until it is needed.

Coco Coir vs Coco Chips: Which Should You Use?

Use / Feature Coco Coir Coco Chips
Texture Fine, peat-like coconut fibre. Chunky coconut husk pieces, similar to bark.
Best For Seedlings, herbs, vegetables, hydroponics, indoor plants, and moisture-loving crops. Orchids, aroids, monsteras, philodendrons, hoyas, reptiles, mulch, and chunky soil mixes.
Water Retention Very high. Helps keep roots evenly moist. Moderate. Holds some moisture while allowing more airflow.
Drainage Good when mixed with perlite, pumice, or chips, but can stay wet alone. Excellent drainage and airflow.
Garden Soil Amendment Great for improving moisture retention in dry garden soil. Good for improving structure, drainage, and air space in heavy soil.
Raised Beds Useful as part of a raised bed blend, especially in hot or dry gardens. Useful for adding chunky organic matter and improving soil structure.
Container Gardening Excellent for peppers, tomatoes, herbs, annuals, and plants that like even moisture. Excellent in large planters where better drainage and root oxygen are needed.
Hydroponics Excellent for drip systems, Dutch buckets, slabs, pots, and automated fertigation. Useful in larger hydroponic containers or blended with coir for extra air space.
Houseplants Works well when blended with perlite, bark, pumice, or coco chips. Excellent for chunky tropical plant mixes, especially for aroids and epiphytes.
Orchids Usually too fine by itself, but useful in small amounts for moisture retention. Excellent as a bark-like growing medium or orchid mix ingredient.
Aroids Good in smaller amounts to help retain moisture. Excellent for monstera, philodendron, anthurium, alocasia, and hoya mixes.
Seed Starting Excellent for starting seeds and young seedlings. Too chunky for most seed starting unless screened or mixed with finer material.
Propagation Excellent for rooting small cuttings that need steady moisture. Good for larger cuttings that need more airflow around developing roots.
Mulch / Ground Cover Can be used, but may blow away when dry or form a crust on top. Better choice for mulch. Looks cleaner, lasts longer, and allows airflow.
Weed Suppression Moderate when applied thickly, but may shift or crust. Better because chips form a loose, breathable mulch layer.
Snake Bedding Better for species needing higher humidity or a burrowing texture. Better for species needing a chunkier, drier surface layer.
Reptile Bioactive Setups Good base ingredient for tropical bioactive substrates. Good as a chunky aeration ingredient or natural-looking top layer.
Terrariums Good for humidity-loving setups, but should be mixed with bark, pumice, or perlite. Excellent for orchids, aroids, epiphytes, and breathable terrarium mixes.
Worm Bins Excellent bedding when rinsed and properly moistened. Useful in small amounts for structure and airflow, but not ideal alone.
Composting Useful as a carbon-rich “brown” material when moistened. Useful as a slow-breaking chunky brown material.
Pathways Not ideal because it breaks down fine and can get messy. Better as a temporary natural path cover, though less durable than wood chips.
Compaction Can compress over time with repeated watering. Maintains structure longer due to larger particle size.
Best Main Benefit Moisture retention and consistent root-zone moisture. Airflow, drainage, structure, and a cleaner chunky finish.

Quick rule: Use coco coir when you want to hold moisture. Use coco chips when you want airflow, drainage, mulch, structure, or a cleaner chunky look.
